Recommends – Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, a Romance Fought Like Chess
Two geniuses are in love, and neither of them will ever, ever say it first.
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War turns a school crush into a battle of wits. It is a sharp, fast comedy, and you do not need to like romance to enjoy it.
The premise – Whoever confesses first loses
Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane run the student council of an elite academy. They like each other, and both are far too proud to admit it.
So each one schemes to make the other confess first, and a simple question like sharing an umbrella becomes a full military operation.
Why it works – A narrator, a war room and Chika
A dramatic narrator calls every round like a sports match, and the show stages tiny moments with the drama of a war film. Chika Fujiwara, the council's cheerful secretary, wrecks both of their plans without trying.
A-1 Pictures adapts Aka Akasaka's manga with fast cuts and perfect timing, and the third episode's ending dance became famous on its own.
The verdict – One episode tells you
The first season runs twelve episodes from 2019, each made of short, self-contained rounds that are easy to watch in any mood.
If the first episode makes you laugh, the series only gets sharper, and warmer, from there.
