A rescue mission where the party eats its way down, and every monster comes with a recipe.

We think Delicious in Dungeon is the best fantasy world-building of the 2020s, and it hides it inside a cooking show. Here are eight reasons, one on each slide.

Reason 1 - A rescue with no supplies

Delicious in Dungeon: a rescue with no supplies

A red dragon swallows Falin deep in the dungeon, and her brother Laios escapes with no money and no food.

Going back up to restock would take too long. So the party goes down, and eats whatever tries to eat them.

Reason 2 - Laios, the man who wants to taste everything

Delicious in Dungeon: laios, the man who wants to taste everything

Laios has dreamed of eating monsters for years, and he is far too happy to finally have an excuse.

He is a strange, kind, slightly alarming leader, and the show never treats his curiosity as a joke at his expense.

Reason 3 - Senshi, the dwarf with a cooking pot

Delicious in Dungeon: senshi, the dwarf with a cooking pot

Senshi has been cooking dungeon monsters long before the party finds him, and he has a method for every creature.

His rule is simple: eat well, waste nothing, and keep the dungeon in balance. He turns a desperate rescue into a cooking lesson.

Reason 4 - Marcille, the elf who did not sign up for this

Delicious in Dungeon: marcille, the elf who did not sign up for this

Marcille is a gifted mage who would rather starve than eat a walking mushroom. Her horror is the show's best running gag.

Under the panic there is a serious magician, and the dungeon slowly brings that side out.

Reason 5 - Chilchuck, the only professional here

Delicious in Dungeon: chilchuck, the only professional here

Chilchuck is the half-foot who picks the locks and spots the traps, and he just wants the job done and paid.

He is the party's straight man, and his dry looks at Laios land harder than any punchline.

Reason 6 - Living armour on the menu

Delicious in Dungeon: living armour on the menu

In the third episode the party meets a suit of armour that walks on its own, and Laios wants to know what is inside it.

The answer turns a horror monster into a nature documentary, then into lunch. That is the whole series in one fight.

Reason 7 - Studio Trigger plays it straight

Delicious in Dungeon: studio trigger plays it straight

Trigger is known for loud action, and here director Yoshihiro Miyajima holds back, framing every meal like a recipe card.

The food looks good enough to eat, which is a strange thing to say about a scorpion.

Reason 8 - Where to start

Delicious in Dungeon: where to start

The 2024 series runs 24 episodes, adapting Ryoko Kui's manga, and BUMP OF CHICKEN sings the first opening.

We say give it the first three episodes. By the walking armour, you will know if this party is your party.

Where to watch

Delicious in Dungeon was listed on Netflix in the USA when we last checked, in October 2026. Catalogues change by country and by month, so check the service where you are.
