Review – Dr. Stone: 8 Reasons to Watch

Every human on Earth turns to stone. One teenager wakes up 3,700 years later and decides to rebuild the world with science.

Every human on Earth turns to stone. One teenager wakes up 3,700 years later and decides to rebuild the world with science.

We think Dr. Stone is the only shonen where the big weapon is a bar of soap. Its hero wins with chemistry, one invention at a time. Here are eight reasons, one on each slide.

Reason 1 – The whole world turned to stone

A flash of green light turns every person on Earth to stone. Senku Ishigami stays awake inside his shell by counting every second.

When he breaks free, nearly 3,700 years have passed and the cities are forest.

Reason 2 – Senku, a hero who wins by thinking

Senku cannot fight and never pretends to. What he has is the sum of human science in his head and the patience to rebuild it from rocks.

His answer to every crisis is the same: work out the formula, then get to work.

Reason 3 – Taiju, the friend who never gave up

Taiju Oki wakes up because he refused to stop thinking about Yuzuriha, the girl he was about to confess to when the light hit.

He is the muscle to Senku's brain, and the warmest heart in the show.

Reason 4 – Tsukasa, a rival with a real argument

Tsukasa Shishio is the strongest fighter Senku can wake. He wants a new world without the old one's greedy adults, and he means it.

He is not a villain for the sake of it, which makes every clash with Senku an argument about what the future should be.

Reason 5 – A village that has forgotten everything

Senku finds Ishigami Village, a small community living in the stone world. Kohaku, a fighter faster than anyone, and Chrome, a self-taught sorcerer, become his first allies.

Chrome is the show's quiet joy: a kid who did science before he knew the word.

Reason 6 – Science you can follow along

Each step is shown: a revival fluid brewed from wine and cave nitrates, then glass from sand, then soap.

You come away knowing how a thing is made, and the show never feels like homework.

Reason 7 – TMS Entertainment, 2019

Shinya Iino directed it at TMS Entertainment in 2019, adapting the manga by Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi. The first opening is “Good Morning World!” by BURNOUT SYNDROMES.

Boichi's faces carry over well: Senku's grin when a plan works is the show's signature.

Reason 8 – Where to start

Start with the first season. You do not need to remember a single chemistry lesson.

We say watch the first two episodes: once Senku makes his first discovery, you will want to see how far he can take it.

Where to watch

Dr. STONE was listed on Crunchyroll, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Hulu in the USA when we last checked, in October 2026. Catalogues change by country and by month, so check the service where you are.
