One swallowed finger, a school for sorcerers and fights where every power plays by its own rules.
Jujutsu Kaisen's first season is, we think, the fairest fight show of the 2020s: every power has a rule and a price, so you can follow every punch. Here are eight reasons, one on each slide.
Reason 1 - Yuji Itadori, a hero with a deadline

Yuji swallows a finger of Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, to save his friends. The sorcerers sentence him to death, then postpone it until he has eaten all twenty.
He starts the series already condemned, and he spends it choosing to help people anyway.
Reason 2 - A grandfather's last words

From his hospital bed, Yuji's grandfather tells him to help people, and to have people around him at the end. Yuji takes it as an order.
That one line from the first episode decides almost every choice he makes after it.
Reason 3 - Sukuna, the passenger who wants the wheel

Sukuna lives inside Yuji, opens a mouth on his cheek and waits for one careless moment to take over his body.
Every fight has a second fight behind it: Yuji against the curse in front of him, and against the one inside.
Reason 4 - Gojo, the strongest teacher alive

Satoru Gojo wears a blindfold, jokes through briefings and is the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Attacks simply never reach him.
When he finally takes the blindfold off, the whole show changes gear.
Reason 5 - Megumi and Nobara make it a trio

Megumi Fushiguro summons shadow beasts from his hands. Nobara Kugisaki fights with a hammer and nails, and left the countryside for Tokyo on purpose.
Neither of them is there to be Yuji's sidekick, and the class works because all three could lead it.
Reason 6 - Powers with rules and a price

A cursed technique comes with conditions: reveal how it works and it grows stronger, bind yourself to a promise and it hits harder.
So a fight is a puzzle you can follow, and a clever loser can still beat a stronger winner.
Reason 7 - MAPPA and Sunghoo Park

Sunghoo Park directed the first season at MAPPA in 2020, and the fights move with weight: you feel each hit land.
Eve's opening, “Kaikai Kitan”, set the tone, and it is still one of the most replayed openings of the decade.
Reason 8 - Where to start

Twenty-four episodes from 2020, adapting Gege Akutami's manga. The 2021 film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel, so you can watch it before or after.
We say start with episode one: the series is built so that you learn the rules alongside Yuji.
Where to watch
JUJUTSU KAISEN was listed on Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu in the USA when we last checked, in October 2026. Catalogues change by country and by month, so check the service where you are.
