A runaway princess, a tavern on the back of a giant pig, and seven knights the whole kingdom calls traitors.
The Seven Deadly Sins starts with a simple trick: the villains on the wanted posters are the only people who can save the kingdom. We think it is the most fun reunion story in fantasy anime.
The premise – Seven traitors, one princess
Ten years ago the Seven Deadly Sins, the strongest knights in the kingdom of Liones, were accused of plotting against the throne and scattered. Now the Holy Knights rule by fear.
Princess Elizabeth slips out of the castle in a rusty suit of armour to find the Sins and ask for their help.
Why it works – A reunion, one Sin at a time
She finds the first one running a travelling tavern, the Boar Hat, with a talking pig named Hawk. Meliodas looks like a boy, and he is the Sins' captain.
Every Sin they track down, Diane, Ban and King among them, comes back with a grudge and a reason to stay.
The verdict – Bright on top, darker underneath
A-1 Pictures made the first season in 2014, directed by Tensei Okamura, adapting Nakaba Suzuki's manga, in 24 episodes.
It looks like a sunny adventure and carries an older, sadder history under it. If you like a crew that bickers like family, start with episode one.
Where to watch
The Seven Deadly Sins was listed on Netflix in the USA when we last checked, in October 2026. Catalogues change by country and by month, so check the service where you are.
