Silver-eyed women hunt monsters for the people who fear them, and every one of them is a step from becoming one.
Claymore is a dark fantasy about women who give up their humanity to protect villages that will never thank them. We think it is the saddest sword show of the 2000s, and the quietest.
The premise - Half human, half monster, all alone

Yoma eat people and hide inside human faces. The only ones who can stop them are the Claymores, women made half yoma by a secret Organization, with silver eyes and huge swords.
Clare is ranked forty-seventh of forty-seven. When she saves a boy named Raki and his village throws him out, he follows her.
Why it works - The danger is inside

Every Claymore who draws too much yoma power risks losing herself for good, so each victory costs her something she cannot get back. The warriors promise each other a clean death before that happens.
Madhouse made it in 2007 with director Hiroyuki Tanaka, and the fights are cold and fast, all silver light and silence.
The verdict - Twenty-six episodes of steel

It adapts Norihiro Yagi's manga, and Nightmare's “Raison d'être” opens every episode with the right kind of dread.
