Japan a thousand-odd years out, broken into small towns. The people who rule this world carry telekinesis, described in the show's own framing as a cursed power. Five children in one of those towns run into an incident that cracks the surface of things, and start learning the bloody history the place is built on.
The rare dystopia that makes you complicit: a piece would argue its horror comes not from the psychic powers but from slowly realizing the sweet pastoral village you've been rooting for is a eugenics program, and that the show trusts you to assemble that yourself from gaps in the narration.
