Soul Eater: the main characters

Half the class turns into weapons, the other half wields them, and the moon is grinning at all of them.

Soul Eater is the most stylish school anime of the 2000s, a gothic cartoon where the sun laughs, the moon bleeds and every partnership is a duet. We think it still looks like nothing else.

The premise - A meister and her scythe

At the academy in Death City, some students can turn into weapons and others, meisters, wield them. Maka Albarn's partner is Soul Eater Evans, who becomes a scythe.

Their goal is to collect ninety-nine evil human souls and one witch's soul, which will make Soul a Death Scythe for Lord Death himself.

Why it works - Every pair has a rhythm

Soul Eater: Death the kid and Tsubaki and Black star

Black Star shouts that he will surpass God while Tsubaki quietly saves him. Death the Kid will stop a fight to fix a crooked picture, because he cannot stand anything that is not symmetrical.

Bones animated it in 2008 under director Takuya Igarashi, and the fights work like music: a meister and a weapon only win when their souls fall in step.

The verdict Come for the style, stay for the partners

Fifty-one episodes adapt Atsushi Ohkubo's manga, and the first opening, “Resonance”, sets the pace from its first chord.

If you like your action loud, gothic and a little silly, enrol here.
