A coward who fights in his sleep and a boy in a boar's head, and the moment Demon Slayer learns to laugh.
Demon Slayer's first ten episodes are a sad story told beautifully. We think it becomes the show people binge the moment two very loud boys join Tanjiro, and here is why.
Zenitsu - The coward who fights asleep
Zenitsu Agatsuma is scared of almost everything, and he says so, loudly and often. Then he faints, and his body draws the sword and strikes like lightning.
He knows one single form of Thunder Breathing, and he has drilled it until it is the fastest thing in the series. Episode 12 is the first time it lands.
Inosuke - Raised in the mountains, fighting with two swords
Inosuke Hashibira wears a boar's head, grew up in the mountains and fights with two notched blades. He wants to beat everyone, starting with Tanjiro.
He cannot get anyone's name right, and the joke never wears out. Under the mask is a fighter who taught himself, and ufotable animates his wild style with real respect.
The verdict - The grief and the noise
Tanjiro carries the grief, and these two carry the noise. Hiro Shimono voices Zenitsu and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka voices Inosuke, and both play it at full volume.
They come together in the Tsuzumi Mansion arc, from episode 11. If the opening episodes felt heavy, that is where the show starts to breathe.
