Best Anime of Fall 2026: The Season's Essential Picks
Fall is historically the strongest anime season of the year. Studios tend to hold major titles for the October to December window, when viewership peaks.
Note: anime season schedules shift. All information current as of September 2026.
Returning Series Worth Watching
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
If you haven't watched Frieren yet, Fall 2026 is a good time to catch up before what comes next. The series follows an elven mage processing centuries of memory and loss, and it became one of the most acclaimed anime in recent years. The action is excellent when it happens. What sets the show apart is its patience: it takes its time in a way almost nothing else does. If new season content airs this fall, it will be one of the most-discussed anime on the schedule.
For fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Dandadan
Dandadan earned its fanbase fast. The mix of supernatural horror, comedy, and genuinely touching romance between Ken Takakura and Momo Ayase is unlike anything else currently airing, and the manga by Yukinobu Tatsu has enough material for several seasons. Returning viewers and first-timers alike will find it earns every bit of its reputation.

Sakamoto Days
The action comedy about a retired assassin running a convenience store got one of the most enthusiastic receptions of any recent shonen. Taro Sakamoto, now chubby, married, and deeply committed to not killing anyone, is one of the more charming protagonists in recent memory. The adaptation is polished and the fight choreography is creative.
Major Franchises to Catch Up On This Season
Jujutsu Kaisen
If you've been waiting for the dust to settle on JJK before diving in, the wait is probably long enough. The series hit its peak with the Shibuya Incident arc, one of the most brutal and emotionally costly story arcs in mainstream shonen, and whatever comes next will be shaped by what happened there. The Jujutsu Kaisen collection has the merch to match.
For fans of Jujutsu Kaisen
Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer remains the most visually spectacular anime in production. Ufotable's animation quality on every arc has been absurd. With the story reaching its conclusion, this is a good window to binge the full series. The Demon Slayer collection covers all the major characters and arcs.
For fans of Demon Slayer
Solo Leveling
The manhwa-to-anime adaptation that proved Korean webtoons could carry a full-scale anime production. Sung Jinwoo's progression from E-rank hunter to something far beyond that is the kind of power fantasy that's easy to dismiss and harder to stop watching. Solo Leveling merch is in stock now.

Entry Points for New Viewers
Fall is a great place to start. Frieren and Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon) are both accessible, beautifully made, and require no prior knowledge of the medium. The Modern Anime Collection covers all the current favourites.
The State of the Industry in 2026
The anime industry is in an unusually strong period. The range of genres, budgets, and ambition on display in 2026 is broader than at any previous point. There's something worth watching regardless of what you're in the mood for.
